On October 20-21, an international symposium on "Translation Education in the Context of the New Era - Innovation in Teaching, Research and Practice", which is one of the series of activities for the 40th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Translators Training Course (UNTTC)/Senior Translation Institute of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), was held at BFSU. Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) Yan Guohua attended the opening ceremony and gave a keynote speech, and Professor Ren Wen, Dean of BFSU Advanced Translation Institute, presided over the opening ceremony.

In the keynote report entitled "Innovative Translation Education Model and Serving the National Strategic Needs: The Case of Beihang University", Vice President Yan Guohua introduced the strategy of great power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and Chinese culture "going out" in the new era of China. Prof. Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of CTA, Prof. Anthony Pym from the University of Melbourne, Prof. Dorothy Kenny from Dublin City University and Prof. Rachel Lung from Hong Kong Lingnan University presented on "Translation Education and Translation Industry Development" and "How to Know What to Teach in Translation" respectively. The keynote lectures in the morning of the 21st were hosted by Prof. Minglai Chai, the founder and honorary dean of the Advanced Translation Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, and Prof. Yingjian Guo, the dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Renmin University of China. In the afternoon of 20th, six sub-forums were held simultaneously, including the "Dean's Forum", which discussed the future development of translation disciplines/professions, the "Editor-in-Chief Forum", which looked into the hot spots and trends of translation research, and the "Translation Profession vs. Language Service Major", "Translation and Translation Education in the Age of Technology", "Translation and Translation Education Research in the Historical Dimension" and "Construction of Undergraduate Translation Teaching Platform Based on Corpus and its Application". The theme forums were "Translation and Translation Education in the Age of Technology", "Research on Translation and Translation Education in the Historical Dimension" and "Construction of Undergraduate Translation Teaching Platform Based on Corpus and Its Application". The closing ceremony was held by Beijing Foreign Studies University.

The closing ceremony was chaired by Prof. Li Changbang, Vice Dean of School of Advanced Translation, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the concluding speech was delivered by Prof. Chai Minglai of Shanghai International Studies University. In his speech, Prof. Chai congratulated the 40th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Translation Training Program (UNTP)/Senior Translation Institute of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and fully affirmed the pioneering, leading position and exemplary role of BFSU in the development of professional translation education and translation disciplines in China. This symposium is another academic event hosted by the School of Advanced Translation Studies of Beijing Foreign Studies University after the "Symposium on Translation Practice and Translation Education in the New Era and Observation Activity on Simultaneous Interpretation and Translation Teaching in Multilingual International Conferences" held from December 1-3 last year, which will further consolidate the position of Beijing Foreign Studies University in the field of translation education, research and practice in China.
